cTnT is used to assess myocardial damage. Samples (Serum) must be taken a minimum of 12 hours after the onset of chest pain to a maximum of 5 days. Sampling time post onset of chest pain must be clearly stated on the request form. If a result is negative, cTnT should NOT be re-measured unless there is further chest pain, and the sample should be taken 12 hours after the onset of the second episode of pain. Samples should be marked as urgent. The test is available 24 hours a day.
