Specimen collection
Specimens may be delivered personally to the main reception area of the Clinical Laboratory Medicine (Pathology) Building, Wythenshawe Hospital.
The Trust Transport department provides a specimen collection service for General Practitioners. This service also delivers specimen containers and reports. Over 70 practices are visited each day. The service operates four routes each day covering Central and South Manchester.
Each collection point is notified of the approximate time of the collection. Drivers are instructed to be as punctual as possible, while paying due regard to safety.
Reports
We encourage General Practitioners to receive electronic-only reports for microbiology, biochemistry and haematology. Otherwise General Practitioners receive paper laboratory reports that are sent via the GP van rounds or through the external mail. The majority of GPs also have electronic transmission of results.
