Pass the specimen directly into the container provided by masturbation.
Abstain from intercourse or masturbation for at least 2 and no more than 6 days before passing the specimen (3-4 days is best).
Do not use a condom.
Deliver the specimen together with the request form to:
Sample Reception, Clinical Science Building (pathology laboratory), Wythenshawe Hospital between 9.00am and 3.00pm on weekdays. N.B. Not Saturday, Sunday or Bank Holidays as the Department is closed.
The specimen should be delivered to 'Sample Reception' as soon as possible after production.
Sperm survive best at body temperature, so in cold weather it is advisable to slip the container into an inside pocket close to the body during transportation.
The pathology laboratory (Clinical Science Building) is situated on the opposite side of Southmoor Road to the main hospital. It is behind the patient car park opposite the main bus stop.
Laboratory staff realize this procedure may be inconvenient and appreciate your co-operation for a successful analysis.
