Note that you need to take separate blood samples for each pathology discipline - microbiology, immunology, biochemistry and haematology.

All routine serum biochemistry tests can be analysed on one filled 5ml tube (yellow top). For non-routine tests please see the individual test information for sample type and volume. Electronic requesting via Anglia ICE will advise the number and types of tubes required. Further details for non-routine tests: contact the Duty Biochemist

Transportation of specimens

On site samples: should be sealed inside a specimen bag for transportation to the laboratory via pneumatic tube or in person.

CSF, precious samples and samples that must reach the laboratory within a set time: should not be transported by pneumatic tube.

Samples from the community: should be transported in sealed sample bags within another transportation bag.
